Kiwifruit marketing giant Zespri has rolled out the first phase of its Horizon systems and processes modernisation programme, using SAP technology implemented by Deloitte, Accenture and Sysdoc.

The go-live took place two weeks ago, with SAP's S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition enterprise resource planning, and the Integrated Business Planning supply chain solutions.

Further down the line, Zespri intends to use SAP's Analytics Cloud, Integration Suite, and Extension Suite, part of the enterprise software provider's Business Technology Platform.

The Horizon transformation programme will also include SAP-endorsed partner solutions from OpenText, Tricentis and Celonis, Zespri said.

Zespri hopes the first-phase implementation will deliver kiiwifruit to customers more efficiently, with the goal being to build a more robust, transparent and reliable process to support its entire product delivery system.

With the SAP Analytics Cloud platform, Zespri will get combined business intelligence, analytics and planning with best-of-breed data visualisations and dashboarding for insights.

The technology rollout is a catch-up effort by Zespri to modernise its systems and processes.

“We’ve known for a long time that our legacy systems were no longer scalable and fit for purpose," Dave Scullin, Zespri's chief digital officer said.

"We underinvested in them for many years, to a point where they would hold us back, reduce our efficiency and effectiveness, and create real risk for the business. We had to change," Scullin said.

Zespri said the latest generation SAP applications for its core enterprise plaform as part of its Horizon programme aims for transformational change, supporting a truly integrated end-to-end business.
